The Knights of Lithuania Foundation, Inc. is a tax-exempt endowment fund dedicated to furthering the Knights of Lithuania charitable work. Funded by bequests and donations by members and others, the Foundation invests its capital and uses the interest from these investments to finance projects to enhance Knights of Lithuania aims and goals. It aids members seeking higher education by awarding the annual Alice Karklius Scholarship, via a grant by K of L-er Ben Karklius, in memory of his late wife. It sends needed help -- books, medications, other support -- to the suffering people of Lithuania, especially her youth and Catholic establishments. Its Annual Essay Contest helps members learn and speak out about their Lithuanian heritage. Monetary prizes and publication in VYTIS are awarded for the best essays about Lithuanian history and traditions, the Catholic religion and the organization itself.
In existence for 20 years members help keep the foundation going and active by making personal donations. The funds are added to the endowment to increase its capital thus providing more funds to help Lithuania and Lithuanian projects. Donations of $100 or more entitle the donor to membership in the Foundation.
The Foundation's Annual Essay contest is sponsored each year for the organization's members. The contest is open to all members of the Knights of Lithuania.
